That One Tree, Revisited

 


It's that one tree again. 


Same tree, but different prints.

Which is the beauty of linocut printing. You first carve the plate, then print the plate, then paint, embellish, layer, texture, flock it, paper it, add or subtract to it. So each one is a one of a kind original piece of art. 




 It's that one tree, where I used to go when I was a child and we lived next to the woods. It was actually just a vacant lot, but to my 8 year old mind it was the vast woods. And in the back of that woods there was that one tree, where I would go to play, pretend, think and pray. I still remember the absolute invincible wonder and peace I felt when I was there. 

   So now as an adult, when I paint, or carve, or draw, I'm going back to that one tree.

Big News!

      For awhile now I have been thinking about sustainability with my work.  As in, how long can I honestly sustain this pace of doing art shows all over the midwest? Which I love, mind you, BUT. You may not know this but I'm not getting any younger! The gamble with shows is that, even with the best preparations, it may not be worth all the trouble. It could be a great show, with sales non-stop, or the opposite, with barely enough to cover expenses. And whether great, good or bad, it still requires the same immense energy. Not to mention gas, lodging and food. I am not complaining; I've had a pretty good show season. That being said, I have been thinking alot about sustainability.        I'm also thinking ahead about the daily routine of going out to the studio (which I love) and starting the  fire in the woodstove  (also love) and then waiting the hours it takes to get it warm enough to work.  Add to that how the groundhogs have m...

August Happenings at the Art Dept!

  Grab a seat at the table for any or all upcoming workshops! Every Tuesday morning, we're inviting home school groups for a morning of art-making. Wednesday evening is time for adult painting sessions. Bring your own project or follow along with Sandy. Thursday morning is Java & Journal, where we spend time with illustrated art journaling while drinking yummy coffee. First timers will receive a fresh new watercolor journal.  Friday 3-6 is the $5 art class at the Alexandria Farmers & Artists Market. Different make & take project weekly. No reservation required.
