And it’s a Wrap

The weekend before Thanksgiving I participated in the Eau Gallie Art Fair in Melbourne, Florida. What a great experience that was! It was my last show for the season and I finished with a bang! So, it’s wrap for 2019.

Once again I had the privilege of meeting the women that I made the pieces for. Here are some of them:

She was on the hunt for something fun and festive, not too much, not too little, something that would show up against her hair and bring on the razzle dazzle.

She made an immediate connection with this piece, dubbed femme du bois- woman of the woods.
Her husband convinced her to try it on,
and as soon as she did there was this great sparkle.

This woman is clearly a lover of color and this pair of orange dangles spoke to her.
I have to admit sometimes I wonder- who would ever wear this? And then she comes along, and WOW! They were definitely made for her!

She came to my booth in her electric scooter and was accompanied by her daughter. They both heard me tell the story of how I use pieces of dried acrylic paint to make the jewelry, and became intrigued with finding the perfect pair of earrings. It took some time because she wanted to see several different options, but then decided on the first pair she had found. That happens often and I love it because it is, after all, a treasure hunt to find the perfect piece!

Lastly, this is me. I sold the earrings and neck piece I was wearing which incidentally harmonized perfectly with the dress. I am indeed a living breathing mannequin at shows and it is a secret goal of mine to sell every jewelry piece I wear. This time when it happened we were having so much fun, I said to the customer, “Well what am I going to wear now?!” And she actually helped me look through my inventory and find this set. So fun!

So that’s it for my 2019 show season. Now I go to my studio and start squirreling away for 2020.
Stay tuned to my Etsy shop to see the new pieces.
Happy Holidays!

Big News!

For awhile now I have been thinking about sustainability with my work.  As in, how long can I honestly sustain this pace of doing art shows all over the midwest? Which I love, mind you, BUT. You may not know this but I'm not getting any younger! The gamble with shows is that, even with the best preparations, it may not be worth all the trouble. It could be a great show, with sales non-stop, or the opposite, with barely enough to cover expenses. And whether great, good or bad, it still requires the same immense energy. Not to mention gas, lodging and food. I am not complaining; I've had a pretty good show season. That being said, I have been thinking alot about sustainability.        I'm also thinking ahead about the daily routine of going out to the studio (which I love) and starting the  fire in the woodstove  (also love) and then waiting the hours it takes to get it warm enough to work.  Add to that how the groundhogs have m...

Next up: Two of my Favorite Shows

First up is Art in the Village in Franklin Michigan, on Monday, September 1st. I will be making my fourth appearance at this gem of a show. Props to the director of the show, Jane Polan. She has the heart and soul that it takes to put on a great show. In her communications to the artists, she always states that she is delighted to showcase our talents. And I believe she really means it! She consistently manages to provide a great space for us, feed us, and, most importantly, get the art-loving buyers to us. So, even though it's one day only, and it's a long drive and a night in a hotel, it is worth it for me.        Franklin is just north of Detroit. It is a beautiful community and I always enjoy staying there. The event is in conjunction with a Labor Day Celebration, which includes a parade with a marching band, food trucks and fun activities for families. The art show is on the grounds of the local library, which hosts a popular book sale...
